{2014} year of…

So now that it is pretty much February, I decided I should probably write this post.  I’ve had my word for the year picked out since the beginning of January, but debated whether or not to share it.  I don’t think I have shared it with anyone (except God) so far.  By posting about it though, I’ll feel more accountable to it and maybe by writing out my thoughts on it I will understand it better myself!

So here I go…2014:: year of bittachon.

I’ve never really done a “word of the year” just heard about others doing it.  But for some reason I really wanted one this year.  I started praying about it the end of last year and after a few weeks through different things I knew what God wanted it to be. Somewhere along the lines of “trust.” I’m kind of weird though and wanted it to be more abstract.  So I looked up “trust” in Hebrew. (what could be more abstract than that? :) ) The word that I found after researching on lots of different sites was bittachon.

“Trust in God is called bittachon in Hebrew, a word that comes from a root word meaning ‘to lean on, feel safe, be confident.'”

And then I knew that was it.  Year of bittachon~putting my trust in the Lord. Having confidence in Someone greater.  Leaning on His promises.

God’s been laying it on my heart to learn to trust HIM more.  Throughout decisions in my life, times when I feel overwhelmed, confused, discouraged, whatever it may be. And the way the Hebrew word bittachon says it is just what my prayer is for this year. I want to lean fully on God and rely on HIM alone for my strength.  I want to feel safe in HIS arms.  And I want to live confidently because I’m trusting HIS perfect plan for me.  I want to lose myself in HIM and find who I’m truly made to be.  HIS daughter, pursuing HIM, loving HIM, and trusting HIM always.  That’s where confidence comes from!

So this year through every up and every down I’m whispering…bittachon. Jesus I trust you.

“You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in you.  Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal.”  ~Isaiah 26:3

“But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.” ~Jeremiah 17:7

( quote from http://www.hebrew4christians.com/Meditations/Bittachon/bittachon.html)

through {HIS} power.

Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

{Ephesians 3:17-20}

around the world and back again {part one}

In the past thirty days I’ve been on ten airplanes, to a different country, to a different state, to a national park, to the Caribbean ocean, to the Atlantic Ocean, to the Pacific Ocean, to the mountains, the list could go on. So many stories, memories, and pictures! Here’s part one in a few pictures… (note: these posts will not be in chronological order. bear with me. :) )

{Carmel – by the sea.} We explored this little tourist town after Family Camp on our drive up towards family and Yosemite.

{Point Lobos State Park} Another pit stop… so beautiful.

That’s the first glimpse into our California trip…coming soon: Majestic Yosemite and our family mission trip!

All my fellow townsmen know that you are a woman of noble character.” [Ruth 3:11]
Reading the book of Ruth today I was struck by this verse…Ruth’s noble character shone through so that all the people of the town knew her for it. A more likely thing would be for them to point her out as a foreigner, a widow, or even look at her outer beauty…but everyone knew her for her inner beauty. Her noble character. {Jesus shining through.}
“God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in HIM.”
[John Piper]
Thinking about this quote also this morning and saw how it really fit Ruth’s life. Ruth lived this. She was satisfied in God, depending on Him to give her what she needed…waiting patiently to see what God was going to do in her life, what good plans he had in store. And God was definitely glorified in her and through her. What a beautiful story and example of a young woman who was confident in the Lord, trusting and waiting and being satisfied in HIM, and living a life of integrity, with {Jesus shining through her beautiful heart.}

Father fill us with that kind of character and confidence in You…shine through our hearts so that the world will know us as women of noble character.

{random picture thursday}

Hi! :) Since I haven’t written a post for a while, and there’s no better way to catch up than to post a bunch of fun pictures *wink wink* I decided to have a random picture Thursday here. :)

On April 13th, we got to attend my second cousin’s wedding and stay in Kansas for the weekend.  It was a blast…dancing, cute decorations, family to see, laughter, staying up late playing four on the couch… :) And I got to take the fancy camera along and had my first experience trying to capture a wedding!  It was lots of fun even though I was just messing around.

This is the sweet curly head of our foster baby C…she was placed with us on April 10th.  We’ve been asked to be baby C’s foster family while her mom is working toward stability and health.  We really do not how long she’ll be in our home, but at this time it does look like she will be a part of our family for at least 6-9 months or maybe more.  We’re seeking to give her our very best and our hearts for whatever amount of time God ordains.  She is precious.

“The Spirit of The Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”
~ Luke 4:18-19 (and Isaiah 61:1-2)

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of JOY.
~ Psalm 63: 1,3,5

{refuge and hope}

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.
My victory and honor come from God alone.
He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.
O my people, trust in Him at all times.
Pour out your heart to Him, for God is our refuge.
Psalm 62: 5-8
